Ferrero Rocher - World Record Attempt

ferrero rocher

I have been thinking about beating the current record for Most Ferrero Rocher chocolates eaten in one minute which stands at a meager five (5) chocolates consumed. I have gone through the details and to quality, you have to unwrap, eat, and swallow the chocolates within one minute. This is my attempt:

I was too ambitious and ended up biting off more than I could chew (haha) but it's quite possible to beat this record and get my name in the Guinness World Records book with a bit of practice. This was done in the afternoon while making mooncakes (post up tomorrow). I've been a bit busy lately making mooncakes, being the best buddy (which is different from best man - it's a HK custom that has found its way here) for a friend's wedding, attending said friend's wedding, and the Mid Autumn Festival lined up tomorrow.

Here are some selected posts from HDS:

Telekom Malaysia - very efficient one!

Project Bachelor Breakfast - Bacon omelet with Edam cheese

Cheers all! Update again tomorrow.

Mooncake Making Live Demonstration

live mooncake demonstration

It's Mid-Autumn Festival again! I chanced upon a live demonstration of the making of a mooncake at Wisma Saberkas and watched the progress of a snow skin mooncake from inception to retail.

live mooncake formation

The snow skin mooncake moulds are kneaded from small rotund pieces of filler before being filled and formed into larger pieces of round balls.

live mooncake balls

The relatively uniform balls of snow skin mooncake is then powdered with an unknown but non-psychoactive substance and then transferred to a mould.

live mooncake mould

The mould is a wooden contraption where the balls of snow skin mooncake is pushed into, forming the unique auspicious characters on the top before being knocked out.

live mooncake contraption

It's a relatively simple process and the molded mooncake is then transferred to receptacles suitable for retail purposes.

live mooncake retail

This is the finished product (Crystalline Twin Flavor) and it costs RM 11.50 per mooncake.

live mooncake bite

The mooncake is a yam snow skin mooncake with a carrot and lotus seed filling, a unique amalgamation of ingredients.

mrclean laundry

Mr. Clean is a laundry services operation with outlets throughout the Klang Valley. There is one in Taman Danau Desa, and after a thorough evaluation of the mound of dirty laundry I have accumulated since I arrived in KL, I decided that a visit to the launderette (or Kedai Dobi as we Malaysians call it) was in order.

mrclean dropoff

The operation of Mr. Clean surprised me - it wasn't the run down kedai dobi that most laundry and dry cleaning service operations are. This one is fully air conditioned, clean and professional. I had a laundry bag containing about 3-5 kgs of unwashed attire (we don't have a washing machine here) and the Mr. Clean receptionist only quoted me RM 10.50. That's a very cheap price for KL.

mrclean night

The basic laundry services which I opted for is a same day service so I went to collect my laundry just now after dropping it off this morning. The night lighting affords a better view of the operations inside and the industry is palpable - there is a man ironing a shirt, another one hanging it on hangers and one woman standing there scratching her head.

mrclean done

The laundry I dropped off this morning was already waiting for me and everything was neatly folded and put into one of their mr.clean bags. Amazing! I don't even fold my own clothes! ;)

There even have complimentary mints on the counter to boot! mr.clean comes highly recommended from me. It's a great place, nice and clean.

KL air pollution

klairpollution.jpg

The atmospheric conditions today made everything smoggy this evening. The photo was taken at around 6 pm today in front of Suria KLCC, I've never seen KL this polluted before...the traffic made things worse with the vehicular exhaust output, it was surprisingly smoky this evening. Personally, it's the first time I've seen it this smoke filled, perhaps it was coz of the humidity today. Interesting, but not enjoyable for a pedestrian...

I saw this Nestle Fitness cereal promotion going on at the ground floor of Kenanga International (office building where I work) when I came in this morning. There were two girls giving away cereal - got them to pose for a photo, my apologies for the quality - I used force flash to avoid motion blur.

The cereal they were giving out for free - Nestle Fitness and a "Save RM 1.00 with a purchase of Nestle Fitness, Nestle Almond Clusters or Nestle Banana-Nut Clusters" coupon.

Here's a close up of the Nestle Fitness cereal.

I ate it with Horlicks, couldn't find milk in the office kitchen. What does it taste like? Cornflakes, but then everything tastes like cornflakes to me.

Thanks for the comments on my piece of art in the previous post. ;) I have to start work now, will reply later ya.

Daylight savings has just started in Victoria, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania. Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia do not participate in daylight savings. I thought it will start on the 28th this year, but it turned out to be the 27th. Bummer, I just lost an hour. I suspected it when my computer clock showed 5:40 am but it was still dark outside. Dawn usually comes at 5 am in spring. Oh well, the start of daylight savings mean we turn our clocks forward 1 hour at 2 am to make it read 3 am. I always forget daylight savings time though. I remember going to class one hour early when I was in Christchurch, NZ. I woke up and got ready for school and wondered why my sister and my other housemates were still in bed. Only realized what had happened when I went to my high school and found it all deserted and shit. It happened to me the first time I came to Melbourne too...ended up going to class one hour late. Heh.

Anyway, I saw this interesting thing happen in the Ampol gas station at the corner of Blackburn Road and Ferntree Gully Road today. I was going to get some Chinese food from Yun Yun when I saw three fire trucks pulled up at the gas station opposite with their lights flashing. At first I thought it was a strike or something coz the trucks all had "Melbourne Fire Brigade Cost Cutting Will Cost Lives" stickers all over the trucks. I went there to get some Diet Coke and saw four firemen crowded around this big ass gas tank. The gas station attendant was very agitated and was walking here and there, making phone calls and pulling up the chain to stop cars from driving in. Turns out the the gas tank was leaking. I wish I had brought my camera along. It would be quite a sight to see a gas station with the gas prices removed and the entrance and exits all chain up, three fire trucks with the lights flashing and firemen crowded around the gas tank. I even thought up a caption for it - "I don't know what's going on here...but I don't want to be a part of it". Heh.

Link of the day: Boy band, but great music [quantumlynx.com]

You've got to check this out. I don't usually listen to music like this, but this one is pretty good. Insightful lyrics too, especially the middle part.

Schoolgirl, 12, suspended over amphetamines [theage.com.au]

Notice that the girl was considered a "model student". I guess staying up for days on end does give you an edge in classes. Not having an appetite will do wonders for your figure as well. Heh. In another semi-related news bit:

Star couple's toddler swallows ecstasy tablet [theage.com.au]

This is not as improbable as it sounds. Ecstasy tablets have been found on the floors of drug friendly raves before. It could be dropped (haha) by a someone who's rolling too hard to realize or dropped on purpose on some MDMA-fuelled charitable act. Not that I know, of course.
