McDonald's in Korea

*adds a notch on my belt*

mcdonalds

I like eating McDonald's in different countries to check out their localized offerings. I suspect this has a lot to do with the New Tastes menu in Australia where 2-3 new items are introduced for a week, and a week only. I was in university then and most university students eat a lot of fast food. *shrugs* I digress.

mcdonalds korea

McDonald's in Korea has several different items:

Big Bulgogi Burger (3400 Won or RM 10)
Bulgogi Burger (2800 Won or RM 8)
Bacon Tomato Deluxe (3800 Won or RM 12)
Shanghai Spice Chicken Burger (3700 Won or RM 12)
Shrimp Burger (3300 Won or RM 10)

korea mcdonalds

The Bacon Tomato Deluxe is like the Big N' Tasty we get over here except with real bacon from pigs. The Shanghai Spice Chicken Burger is their version of the Spicy Chicken McDeluxe. The Shrimp Burger is similar to the Crispy Prawn Burger we had over here a while back. I ate the one in Lotteria (the fast food arm of the giant Lotte) instead. Lotteria is the #1 fast food chain in South Korea - I'll post about it later.

Thus, the only truly localized menu item is the Big Bulgogi Burger.

bulgogi burger

I had the Big Bulgogi Burger set (4900 Won or RM 15) and one interesting thing about Korea is that they're very big on the environment. You pay 100 Won extra for the cup, which is refunded when you return it for recycling.

big bulgogi burger bite

Bulgogi is a Korean dish which means marinated barbecued beef and we had the same thing for dinner the night before. Bulgogi done right (and the Koreans always do it right) is tender, succulent and delectable! The Big Bulgogi Burger is essentially a double Bulgogi Burger - the Korean version of Big Mac, if you will.

big bulgogi burger

Oh, how do I even begin to describe the pure awesomeness of the Big Bulgogi Burger? Imagine a huge burger made with soft buns and tender, melt-in-your mouth bulgogi beef sandwiched in the middle. Visualize the juices practically squirting out of the bulgogi beef when you bite into it, coating your tongue with the delicious barbecue marinate.

big bulgogi burger me

Now, multiply that thought by a factor of 10 and you might just get a hint of how breathtaking the Big Bulgogi Burger is. One of my friends took a bite and promptly decided that he needed to have one too so we ate the same thing again at the airport McDonalds!

The Big Bulgogi Burger is awe-inspiring - it's so delicious that the superlative to describe it hasn't even been coined yet.

I have experienced the divine and I'll never be able to settle for a lesser burger. :(

You make me real hungry!!!! HB, was wondering, btw, if you're a good partner for casual sex? I heard men who eat dog meat make real good love. I haven't squirted before, was just wondering, would you like to have the honour of making me cum for the first time?

so_high: Hmm...I don't think I've ever made anyone squirt before but if it's squirting you're into, take a bite of the Big Bulgogi Burger! :p
Satisfaction guaranteed! ;)

LOL. Is this like a sex chat room or smtg? :D I'm underage. 16 only. :P :P :P :p

Anyway! The burger look damn good! I haven't had McD's for a while now and I think i'm gonna have it first thing first when I arrive at the KL Airport on Tuesday! :D

Dude, the bit of burger stuck on the corner of your face makes this McD video a sixthseal classic.

Awhh...i also wanna have a bite...10 times factor!! that is alot

HB, all the food you listed we do not have in the states at all. San Francisco McDonald just regular stuff. Hawaii not bad they have taro pie, coconut haupia pie, tropical smoothie, and teriyaki burger. Breakfast is Portuguese sausage with eggs and rice. Ramen is also serve in McDonald.

chefmel: 16 my foot! :p
I think it's the squirting references and what not I used to describe the burger. Haha!
It is damn good, the Big Bulgogi Burger is out of the world. It's super awesome, I can't even begin to describe it and even though I'm full I'm craving for it. :)

e: Cheers buddy! :)
Heh! Yeah, I know, they won't let me wipe that morsel of food off before they took a photo either.
I ATTACK good food. =D

hitomi: Yup, it seriously is that good.
You've gotta try it sometime when you go to Korea. Bulgogi first (at a Korean BBQ resto) then this one. You'll see the similarities and the impressive quality control. :)

Erica: Sounds good to me! The states has a lot of seasonal promotional menu items not on the regular menu. The teriyaki burger sounds good to me. :)

I've been expecting a post bout Mc Donalds!
Your undying love for Big Macs, eh? =)

Ryan: Haha! Not Big Macs per se, it's all about localization menus in different countries. Every country has a different McD menu e.g. in Germany, they serve beer! =D
It's like stamp collecting...except for fast food.

it seems that the only boring version of mcd would be the uk ones, there's totally no variety to the burger let alone creative ones.

the bulgogi burger looks really good alright. i'd only tasted bulgogi on its own but never in burger form.

now i'm starting to miss malaysia's version of mcd

You really have to wonder why McDonalds Malaysia isn't as aggressive and innovative in introducing more items into our already pretty lame menu.

why did the chicken cross the road. cause it had a general (Tsoa) and a col. ( Harlnd Sanders) after it. wishing you well, all, thanks for yhe tips on the lamb roast .

I saw a forum post showing different mcdonald's food from around the world and thought of you and remembered how you said in an older post from a long time ago how much of a "McDonald's geek" you were. :P When I was living in Brazil the meat of the nuggets and burger I ate tasted so strange! Like, artificial meat!

gotta admit, if im early on the road and out the door and want breakfast, nothin beats an egg mcmufin. ( hey, I anin't even paid for that) but they do make good coffee. and those little apple pies. sombody was a marketing genious. or maybe not. maybe it just good consistent food. after all,i could stop at arbys, or bk (actually like their burgers better) or Wenydys is ok. still...

Guess what? Sometimes, I head to Maccas when I go traveling also. Just to get a taste of how different the burgers are. Lol.
I have this friend of mine, who works as a air stewardess, travels around the world, snap pictures of mcD burgers and sends em to me.
Awesome stuff =)

got dog meat burger or not? dock, i mean..eh wrong spelling.. duck i mean..

Damn! The burger look awesome! Should have added bacon! It would be double squirts then!

p/s: epic first comment!

cindy khor: I haven't tried the UK McDonald's. I must do it one day.
Yeah, the bulgogi burger is really awesome! =D

Cheers: They do, occasionally. I remember a year when they did intensive introductions of new menu items. I liked the Crispy Prawn Burger but market tests suggests it didn't sell well (or why not put it on the regular menu?). It could be cost related too though. Some burgers are just too expensive to maintain on the perma menu. :)

tom: Cheers my friend! Be well! :)

jessy: Heh! Yeah, I'm a total McDonald's geek. It started in Australia actually - when I did my uni, they started this awesome marketing campaign called the New Tastes menu. 2-3 items introduced each week, and for ONE WEEK ONLY.
It has a theme too - Indian, Greek etc so all the burgers are really different, not just a rehash of an existing menu item. :)

tom: I'm keen to try the McRib burger in the states. I've been hearing good things about it. :)
Also, some states have lobster burgers and such on their regular menu. Very nice. :)

Mizz Sharon: Heh! Your friend is a McDonald's geek like me! I love trying McDonald's in different countries too. Why not BK? Why not KFC? Why not any other chain? I don't know.
I think it has to do with my time in uni, McD was the leader in introducing new menu items compared to other chains like Hungry Jacks (BK). :)

lb: Haha! I doubt they even have that in China. ;)

Marlboro Guy: Yeah, I bet it would have tasted better with bacon. Everything tastes better with bacon.
Haha! Yeah, I don't know wtf is up with the first comment too. :)

I personally think Hungry Jack sucks but very cheap. oh well ..

Me me me too!!

Had McDs in Thai, Macau, China, Sg but since I haven't traveled to much exotic countries (ie like u ;) ) the offerings were ok but sure doesnt compare to that bulgogi burger u had!

Having said that, I just had Korean yest at SS2, Korea Hse and the beef and pork was AWESOME!
I can imagine hw its like in a bun!!

mich-: Well, I used to live in Clayton so Hungry Jacks was quite far...nearest fast food was McDonald's and that chicken place (forgot what it's called - it's an Aussie francise). :)

thenomadGourmand: Yeah! The beef bulgogi is awesome. I have no idea how they do it. I think the secret is in the marinade. I had it in Korea too, very fucking awesome, my friend. :)

Red Rooster?

Looks blardy goooddd

That's what we are missing out here in Bolehland...a REAL HAMburger.

So cute!! That piece of bulgogi stuck on your face. *Remind me of my nephew* Will be even better if some cute Korean girl decide to lick that off for you. Hehe. *J/K*

the video LOL...

mich-: Yeah! That's the one. Red Rooster. Heh! Thanks! :)

KY: Very awesome stuff indeed, this bulgogi burger. I'm lovin' it. ;)

Wilfred Yeo: Heh! We have bacon...beef bacon. ;)
Which is not real bacon at all. :)

fish fish: Haha! Yeah, I ATTACKED that burger, it was that good. My friends told me not to move to take a photo of that piece of burger stuck on my face somemore. :)

Tony Wan: Heh! I missed doing videos...since I got my dSLR, I haven't been able to do so, but now with a new compact - waterproof, shockproof etc, I can do videos again! =D

Good one! That's what i always do, try all the MCD in different countries!

This looks good, like a korean variation of the mighty angus. :D

eiling: Yeah, some people get postcards, I eat McDonald's. Haha! :)

SW: -_- I want to try the Mighty Angus and the Grand Angus too, too bad I'm not in Australia. :(

I ordered fish fillet value meal when i was in Oman lst week. It cost me RM17/regular set. Slightly expensive than here.

I'm also like you. Would normally viaited McDonald'c when I'm abroad. Two reasons:
1. To check the differences.
2. Something familiar that you know won't upset your stomach.

headsteadi: What do they have in Oman that's different? I've never been to Oman or any of the Arab states before. I'm sure there's interesting menu items over there. Cheers! :)

i never tried mcd in korea even though i was there once.. haha.. i rarely eat mcd anyway these days.. =P

Oh gosh...Bulgogi seems real nice...i have been salivating all over just by looking at it...i'm sure the 1st chew comes with a full orgasm inside ur mouth, HB...

Wow~ I have not been to Korea yet..Next time if I have the chance, I'll surely go for the Bulgogi Burger! (gulp~)

kenwooi: Lotteria is the bigger fast food chain over there...had supper there once too. Pretty good, they have this combo burger - shrimp and bulgogi. I'll post it up soon. :)

Cweelee: Yeah, it's awesome! I miss it already. :(
Haven't found a similar burger over here. Even the bulgogi tastes better in Korea. :S

theeggyolks: Yeah, it's a must-try! :)
I'm planning to go to Korea again, this time for a proper vacation instead of work. =D

hi there, im going to korea for a week next month. To be honest, this is my first time to experience winter. So, i don't know much.

Can u give some advice for my trip especially for clothing. Is it enough to just wear long john, shirt, cotton jacket and jeans jacket.

And for shoes i just plan to wear my converse high cut with wool sock of course.

Other than clothing, i hope u can gv advice for other things that i may be overlooked.

p/s: i do bring plug adapter.and food haha..

green: Hmm...I've only been to Korea once. It can be pretty cold in winter though so a windbreaker or coat would come in handy. I think it's all up to your cold tolerance. I was wearing trainers, jeans and just a trenchcoat on a ski resort and I was fine. :)
Adapters is a must.

I was wondering what is up with that weird gravatar??? I know 5am is early and I'm not looking my best at that hour, but I hope I don't look like this! I might however make that face if I'm asked to do 100 pushups. lol
