I went to the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale earlier this week and came home with a cache of books that I've been intending to get - Neal Stephenson's Baroque cycle, some Stephen King, Anne Rice's Christ trilogy and Dune novels. It's really cheap - going from RM 8 - RM 10 (and some of them are hardcovers, mind). Racking up a RM 122 bill is a bargain, since I got 14 books for the price of 4. :)

14 books for RM 122 is damn cheap!
HB, not bad deal you got. Did you learned speed reading in college? They had it in mine which is much needed for study of many subject and researchs. Are you going resale the books online like on Amazon or Ebay?
Very cheap.. And this really a good deal for my bro since he also loves reading book.U really love reading. I more to read blog than books. ;)
Killa. The Dune books are good, read them a million years ago. Some of Stephen King's stuff is great. Tell us how you like 'em when you're done.
When reading for pleasure, books (presumably good books, since you're reading of your own volition) should be savored, not rushed through. I just re-read "To The White Sea," the last novel by the late American poet James Dickey, better known for the book (and subsequent film) "Deliverance." Great books reveal more and more to the careful reader, imo. Enjoy your books HB!
Reading is gonna kill your brain cells.....
Read this....
((((RING))))
**Pick Up**
"Hello?"
"Hi honey, this is Daddy, Is Mommy near the phone?"
"No Daddy, She's upstairs in the bedroom with Uncle Paul."
After a brief pause, Daddy says, "But honey, you haven't got an Uncle Paul."
"Oh yes I do, and he's upstairs in the room with Mommy right now"
...... Brief Pause
"Uh, okay then, ..this is what I want you to do. Put the phone down on the table, run upstairs and knock on the bedroom door, and shout to Mommy that Daddy's car just pulled into the driveway."
"Okay Daddy, just a minute"
A few minutes later the little girl comes back to the phone. "I did it, Daddy"
"And what happened honey?" he asked
"Well, Mommy got all scared, jumped out of bed with no clothes on and ran around screaming. Then she tripped over the rug, hit her head on the dresser and now she isn't moving at all!"
"Oh my God!!! What about your Uncle Paul?"
"He jumped out of the bed with no clothes on, too. He was all scared and he jumped out of the back window and into the swimming pool. But I guess he didn't know that you took out the water last week to clean it. He hit the bottom of the pool and I think he's dead"
***Long Pause***
******Longer Pause******
Then Daddy says: "Swimming pool?? ... Is this 486-5731?"
Cool stuff, HB, so many great authors around. Some of my favs are ken follet, and margret mittchel, ( gone with the wind, and if you have ever read the book, it is nothing like the movie). Some others I like are ray bradbury ( 451) nevile shutes ( on the beach) and belive it or not, Ben hur, written by a General. ( again, nothing like the movie). I most generally like somewhat up lifting stuff. Got enough down stuff in myselfs and others lifes already. But I guess my all time favorite is SK . The Stand. But even some of his stuf sucks for me. I just like writting, that speaks to me personally. Hell, I like Jules Vern, ( around the world in eighty days, and20, 000 leages under the sea. or dikens "chistmas carrol" but when I tried to read tale of two cities, I could not finish it. Much like hemingway, or twain. No matter what the race, religion, or skin color. it speaks to the heart, or doesnt. ( an example - I was driving to see Connie, rounded SHARP CURVE, and 3 or 4 13 yr olds were walking Up the hill. toting skate boards. One fell in the street, feighning hurt. I stopped, and said "nice try guys, but I was once your age". The "injured" one got up, smiled a little a little sheepish ly , and they went on their way, as did I. Shit, nobody belives it, but I was once 13. That is the basis of much good writting, I think. Been there, done that. rememberance, or at least conecting. ( have a little collection of short stories by sk, in my bathroom, to read while sitting on the jon. Right now. It is called " just after sunset". I like some of them, and some so not so much. thats ok. I am glad, HB, you are well. Happy reading. In the west, we do not know of too many eastern writers. Please give a a heads up. God bless,
Tom

chefmel: Yeah, it's a BARGAIN! :)
Michael (Mike): Nope, I like to keep my books. :)
I'm a very fast reader, I get through books in a day or two.
Shirley Snow: I read both! Blogs and books. I just about read anything, habit of mine since I've been reading since I was really young. I read Stephen King when I was 10. :)
John: I have read ALL of Stephen King's books except the Dark Tower series. I'm a big fan since I got hooked when I 10 and I've got all of his books. I love the dude, even though some people call him verbose.
Dune is great too, read all the books up to The Butlerian Jihad and I got all the rest of the series at the books sale.
Good to hear from a fellow book lover. :)
DYMM_Tuanku: Haha! I've been reading novels since I was 7 - a habit my mom encourages and cultivated. I started reading adult fiction at a very young age too, to my mom's delight and my dad's consternation due to the sexually explicit themes. I'm fine though and I still believe books is the best well to learn English.
...and I love that joke, it's one of my favorites, I always forward it to people to cheer them up. :)
tom robinson: I read Farenheit 451 too and a lot of other similar books (1984, Brave New World). Classics. I read Grapes of Wrath too, a great example of American Lit. Stephen King is a great writer...no doubt some of his novels gets repetitive but I still love him.
Be well my friend. :)
cynthia: Thanks Cynthia! Have a safe flight back home! :)
tom robinson: Cheers mate! :)
That's y I said you are too unique & different from others. :)
Shirley Snow: Thanks Shirley! :)
Woa... 14 books for RM120? So cheap! weyh, next time got book sales drop me a comment lah. I also wanna go see see eh.. Been broke from buying novels already XD
that's quite a bargain for 14 books you'd got there... really well literate...
I don't even buy any books anymore...public library has it all...even latest movie releases for free :)
cannnot let this go HB. Have you ever read some of the original Grimm fairy tales? They are horifying. sure nothing like I used to hear, when I was a kid. Shit, I would never have left the house. Thats ok. Push em out of the nest slowly, but not too slow. Otherwise, they never learn to fly. and that is what they were made for.
Tom
Fellow Frank Herbert fan in the office! Niceeee.
That's really a bargain. Time like this is good to hunt for bargain like this. I think next month I'll have to follow your strategy to save money and eat only bread. Will be damn broke once I paid my AMEX bill. T_T
stephy-nie: Okay, I shall remember to do that. There was an MPH sale earlier and then this BBW warehouse sale. They have a lot of good books at dirt cheap prices. :)
cindy khor: Yeah, I love reading and this batch is gonna last a while for me. :)
Cheers! :)
Paul: Yeah, I used to download e-books to read on my Palm m505 and then my HP iPaq. Both are broken though and reading on a notebook just isn't the same, so I went back to reading proper paper books. :)
tom robinson: Yeah, I have! It's quite gruesome, like the ORIGINAL Cinderella tale. The sisters actually chopped off their feet to try and fit into the glass slipper, but alas, the children's version and Disney's version covered up that one. I would have loved to see that. LOL!
Jason Lee: Yup! Pat too, she's a fan of Frank Herbert as well (but not Brian Herbert or Kevin J. Anderson). Myself, I don't really mind the two, I just love the Dune series. My philosophy is a continuation of a great series is better than nothing, even if it's written by different authors. That's probably why I read fan fiction too. :)
i LOVED the sale compared to others. xD
When is the next sale in selangor or Kuala lumpur
Thanks.
Lin O: Yeah me too. I'm still reading the books I got that day. :)
Nermal kaur: Hmm...I'm not sure.
