1901 is a fast food franchise specializing in hot dogs. It operates on the American New York style hot dog pushcart system and contrary to popular belief, it's a Malaysian franchise. 1901 opened up an outlet in Wisma Sanyan, Sibu and I went with Amy during lunch to check it out.

The tagline of the 1901 hot dog franchise is "food for friendship". The outlet at Wisma Sanyan is a mobile kiosk. 1901 outlets are either pushcarts, mobile kiosks or snack cafes. I used to patronize the one in Suria KLCC coz the service is fast and you can just grab a hot dog before taking the LRT.

The mobile kiosk at Wisma Sanyan is located on the second floor and 1901 also produces their own bottled drinks. They have a range of 1901 branded bottled fruit drinks and their own mineral water.

1901 is manned (womanned?) by two ladies preparing the hot dogs. The hot dogs are all pre-made and kept heated so the service is fast. It's not very comfortable to be eating lunch in a mobile kiosk with elevated chairs (perhaps stool would be a better word) but it's a good place to grab a quick lunch and it's close to where we work.

Amy had the Regular Deutsch Doodle Dang (RM 6.50) with extra cheese.

I opted for the Great Texas Ted (RM 7.70) which is what I usually eat back in KL. 1901 serves their hot dogs in two sizes - Regular and Great. It's important to note that the size difference only applies to the hot dog (sausage) - the bun remains the same size.

This is me and Amy at the newly opened 1901 hot dog stand in Wisma Sanyan during lunch. I was attempting to stuff the entire hot dog into my mouth and got a laugh from one of the girls manning the counter who took the photo of us.

1901 - food for friendship.

It was only later when I opened up Amy's box that I noticed she didn't eat most of the bun. She shouldn't be on Atkins's since she's so slim. I'm kidding, she just didn't want to eat the hot dog bun. Amy tried to stop me from taking a photo of her leftovers - she claimed it was too sengeh (Foochow for messy). ;)

I saw this 1906 kiosk at Mid Valley but didn't got the chance to try it. I'm a bit tulan cos they open at Sibu instead of Kch first. You know Mary Brown open their 1st outlet at Bau instead of at Kch.Later at Kch airport departure hall. Now baru they wanna open one at Kch. Like Starbuck also KK have those ages ago before they open one at Kch.
I think I mentioned to u that I hardly ever go to Wisma Sanyan...so if you're going to 1901 for hot dogs again, do get me one...and drop it off at my place after work! Home delivery! Hahahahaha!!!!...But seriously, have you tried the Ferry Kebab! Used to be RM2.00 only, haven't been there for a while...but it IS nice!!! And so much cheaper! Want some? LOL!!!
The hot dog really looks delicious. The last time, I took the hot dog burger was at Chicago 7 in Kuching. Not bad and I even get myself a free salad because it was Mother's Day. Strange thing was I saw another couple after us was not given the free salad. So, I told hubby it might because I look more like a mother now. hahahaha....
the ferry kebab costs 2.50 nowadays n from the looks of the pics, the ferry kebab shud b worth a try. looking forward to fish head curry at Sheraton?
damn. you got this in SIBU already? tried it in kl and it was pretty good. why the hell open in sibu and not in kuching? =(
The two girls look familiar. I think I saw them from school last time.
Hey HB! In Canada, they only have ketchup, mustard, relish and maybe chili pepper rings for toppings. Maybe yellow processed cheese or onions, but that's about it :P
Off topic, but I noticed my new Puma hoodie was made in Malaysia. Are Puma items cheaper there, by any chance? I'm a really big fan and it's very expensive here...
Heard once from PUMA rep here at the time, never buy in Sibu, businessmen her too crafty. Stock maybe 10% original, rest imitation but selling at ori prices. Dunno if that's still the case today!
Has moved to Aus almost 7 years.. :( anyone can tell me where is the ferry kebab? Is it the one near where the funfair held ???? Long time never eat Sibu kebab liaw~ xD~
Rite, miumiu! That's the one! Simpang Tiga...the junction of Kpg Nangka, Kpg Hilir, Jalan Ramli Amit and Jalan Ria. Kebab kosong, only meat (more!)and no vege...or kebab biasa - both same price! They really dunno how to make business...but I'm not complaining! LOL!!!
Good morning HB,
Ha ha, hw come i never knw this even though my office only dekat dekat leh.... nw i think i must go try it out lo.... Tell Amy its ok to eat the hotdog only la... most girls only eat hotdog but not the bun lo... ha ha ha anyway, have a nice day today cos i see the weather today also not bad... drink lots lots of water la....ta ta .............
Well.. ive seen tat stall but i just dun wish to spent rm10 for just a set of hotdog and drink. :(
Tat girl, with spec i knew her, but cant recall the name. Is tat gonna b yr xx chromosome as well??
ah I remember there used to be one 1901 in Miri at Bintang plaza, then as usual business no good and close shop.
Haiyo,
Don't knw wat happen to my laptop tis few days... submit a comment but never appear... anyway, those hotdogs bun looks real tasty... will check it out soon since my office is just around there... hi hi hi tell Amy that its normal for girls to only eat the hotdog lo...hi hi hi no pai se no pai se....
suituapui: Thanks for your warning. That's just too bad that Puma apparel at reasonable prices probably don't exist anywhere on the planet at all.
Reply SuiTuaPui: Thanks for the info! Sure gonna try it with MORE meat nextime b4 they change their mind to increase the price LOL.
Yes, bubble7866! The guy can have the bun while the gal enjoys the meat/sausage! LOL! Gee! Looks like l'm the official replyer to all the comments u get, Huai Bin! Hahahahaha!
so that's how you look while you're working! ha ha,i always tot amy put heavy makeup for work... but i was wrong.. ha ha
Roland: Hmm...perhaps the rental at Wisma Sanyan is lower for their business model. Kiosks are popular in Wisma Sanyan due to the low rental rates. I had Merry Brown in Genting once, I didn't really like the chicken. Interesting that they decided to open an outlet in Bau (of all places!) instead of Kuching first.
suituapui: Sure thing, but it's gonna be really soggy by the time it gets to you. Next bloggers meet we'll drag you there. Probably need a lot of strong men to do that, but still... ;)
Yeah, I blogged about the Ferry Kebab once, back in 2002 I think. It's still there, I saw the place while driving down that road last week.
Choonie: Chicago 7? Is it a new establishment? It wasn't there when I was in Kuching. Where is it located?
Got free salad for Mother's Day some more. This kind of perks gives a good reputation for the outlet, kinda like Chili's and TGIF giving out free birthday cakes if it's your birthday.
bengbeng: Yeah, it tastes really good. They use the cheap chilli sauce (which tastes nicer than the Maggi ones) - it's the same chilli sauce for kampua. Yeah, this weekend, Sheraton. Confirm the time and date on Thursday.
Irene: I have no idea. It's interesting, it should be Kuching first coz of the population and the more metropolitan setting. Or at least Miri, before Sibu. We're always the last to get stuff. Nice guys finish last. ;)
Clare: Really? They're from St. Elizabeth? I'll go and ask if they know you. :)
liquidblackout: I like mustard on hot dogs too. It's not very popular here. 1901 has chilli pepper rings for toppings as well, it's hidden under the cheese. :)
Puma is made in Malaysia? I thought everything is made in Vietnam/China/Phillipines nowadays. I'm going to check for you.
suituapui: I'll have to agree with that. I saw Nike shoes which are obviously knock offs (saw some China aunties going around selling the very same shoes for a fraction of the price) at a shop in Wisma Sanyan going for authentic Nike prices. It's still happening.
miumiu: Yeah, it's still there. STP, our resident food critic would be able to give directions. I can't without GPS here in Sibu and she's in Miri now. I know where the place is though, near Kampung Hilir.
suituapui: Kebab kosong as in only the bun and chilli sauce and mayo? I didn't know they sell that! Interesting. I'm gonna ask for more meat next time if it's the same price. :)
bubble7866: Where do you work? You're near my office too then, but then again Sibu is really small. It just opened up last month I think. The business is slow from what the counter girls told me. Thanks for your concern, shall drink lots of water. :)
goolooloo: Yeah, I've noticed their pricing too. It's even more expensive than McDonald's. Probably the reason it's not doing well. It's the only hot dog place I know in town though (discounting the Ramli burger stalls).
XX Chromosome...er, have to meet certain criteria la. You're definately going to be in it. I got your photos from that day already. Haha!
Darren: Yeah, I think it's more suitable for the KL market - grab and go, where price is less of an issue than convenience and with the population over there.
bubble7866: What do you mean? I saw your comment just now. Did you mean a different comment?
suituapui: Hmm...the guy can have the buns while the girl can have the sausage. Sounds a little obscene when you think about it. ;)
clementwpy: Yeah, that's pretty much my office attire. I have a blue shirt, a white shirt, a grey shirt, a black shirt and a maroon one. One for each day of the week. ;)
You're from Amy's batch too?
Such strange toppings for a hotdog!
STP, looks like ou brain wave are on the same track oh..... hi hi hi
p/s: Amy-just kidding oh...
i remember you blogged about one hotdog stall in KL Hartamas which was own by an american, what's that stalls name again?
Ewww... no gloves!
HB, get her a razor please!
Oops...my mistake! It's KEBAB PLAIN...the bun with meat only and mayo on top....none of the raw cabbage and carrot. They have to stuff the gap in the bun with more meat in this case to fill it up (Gee! Why am I getting all kinds of strange mental pictures??? LOL!!!)...and yet, it's the same price!...So don't go and order Kebab Konsong...they may just give the empty bun!!! Hahahahaha!!!!
jessy: Yeah, it's a Malaysian based franchise.
bubble7866: The pricing structure isn't right with KFC just downstairs offering cheaper (and more filling) family fare.
Darren: Danny's All American Hot Dogs. I'm still in touch with Larry. He has opened a bistro now. Upgraded. :)
Aishah: Hmm...I didn't even notice that. Must be getting used to the unsanitary conditions in Sibu. ;)
wuching: Haha!
suituapui: Okay, the imagery is getting more and more SX Rated. ;)
Thanks for the tip, will try ordering that.
Wait.. d cheese was still wrapped in plastic! So wat's with d "Eww.. No Gloves!"? C'mon..
Btw, u guys out there should try out their classic/ midwest oval.. it tastes-GREAT!;)
Esp. d beef patty.. yummy.. :P

Mohammad Zafifi: I don't know, my friend. Ask the 1901 people. I'm only reviewing the place coz it's one of the things I like to do. :)
